2024 was a year of steady, hands-on work for Stichting Soyka NL — focused on practical help, community support, and building tools that actually make life easier for people affected by the war in Ukraine and political repression in Russia.
We’re a small, community-driven organization, and we try to be transparent about how we work and how funds are used. Below is a short overview of what we did last year and how we’re moving forward.

What We Focused On
Practical, targeted aid
Throughout the year, we continued to support refugees and forcibly displaced people by covering needs that often fall through the cracks of larger aid programs. This included children’s items, sports equipment, household appliances, and other essentials that help people regain a sense of normalcy.
Much of this work was volunteer-led: people bought items locally, delivered them directly, and were reimbursed. While this makes our work fast and flexible, it also creates bookkeeping challenges — something we’re actively improving.
Legal Survival Guide for Refugees
In December 2024, we launched the Legal Survival Guide for Refugees in the Netherlands, developed together with partners such as Volnitsa NL and FAR Utrecht. The guide brings together legal information, templates, and practical tools to help asylum seekers understand their rights and navigate everyday legal situations.
A €3,000 grant fully funded the development of this guide. All funds went to contracted specialists; board members received no remuneration.
Community and cultureWe also continued organizing community events that connect people through discussion, shared experiences, and culture. These events focus on social and political realities in Russia and neighboring regions and help build an informed, supportive community in the Netherlands — not only for displaced people, but for everyone who cares about these topics.
A Quick Look at the Numbers
In 2024, Soyka raised €10,438 in individual donations through crowdfunding and community support, and received €3,000 in grant.
Total expenses amounted to €8,707.49, primarily covering direct aid and project costs.
By the end of 2024, Soyka’s bank balance was €5,012.21, which will be carried forward to support our work in 2025.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Next year, our goal is simple: do more, better, and more sustainably.
We plan to:
Actively grow crowdfunding among supporters in the Netherlands
Apply for a larger European grant
Continue joint fundraising with partner organizations
Build stronger volunteer capacity through training and better tools
Funding will go toward scaling direct support for refugees, maintaining and improving our information services, and strengthening the community around Stichting Soyka.
Happy upcoming new year holidays!
Peace and love to all.
With love,
Stichting Soyka NL Board of Directors
